1979 NAIA College World Series

From BR Bullpen

The 1979 NAIA College World Series was held in Nashville, TN for the first time. Seven of the eight teams qualified for the tournament by winning their District and Area Tournaments. Host school David Lipscomb College, which had finished 2nd in the Area 5 tournament was given the opportunity to enter when Grand Canyon College pulled itself out of the tournament. The Southern Baptist affiliated school pulled its #1 ranked team out of the College World Series after a local paper published a picture of the team celebrating its Area 2 championship with champagne. Lipscomb went on to defeat High Point College in the championship game.
