1999 Asian Championship

The 1999 Asian Championship was the first Asian Championship since 1967 to have every team finish in the same slot as the previous Asian Championship. It was held from September 11 through September 17 in Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, South Korea. It was the 20th Asian Championship. It was a qualifier for the 2000 Olympics.
South Korea repeated as undisputed champion for the first time ever. The team included Min-tae Chung, Min-chul Chung, Yong-jun Cho, Dong-hwan Mun, Chang-yong Lim, Pil-jung Jin, Dae-sung Koo, Dong-soo Kim, Sung-hoon Hong, Seung-yeop Lee, Ji-hyun Yoo, Myung-chul Shin, Jong-tae Park, Dong-joo Kim, Han-soo Kim, Soo-keun Jung, Byung-kyu Lee, Jae-hong Park, Jun-hyeok Yang and Han-lee Park. Byung-kyu Lee led the event in runs and average and won MVP honors. Yong-jun Cho had the most wins and best ERA. Jae-hong Park led the Championship in RBI. Dong-soo Kim paced in home runs. Jong-tae Park won the award for the best defense.
Japan won its second straight Silver Medal. The club included Daisuke Matsuzaka, Hideo Koike, Shinnosuke Abe, Atsuya Furuta, Nobuhiko Matsunaka, Kenjiro Nomura, Kiyoshi Hatsushiba and Norihiro Akahoshi.
Chinese Taipei won its fourth Bronze in a row. The team included Ming-Chieh Hsu, Yi-Cheng Tseng, Feng-Min Chen, Chin-Feng Chen, Chung-Yi Huang, Kan-Lin Huang, Chih-Yuan Chen, Chia-Hsien Hsieh, Cheng-Hsun Hsieh and Chang-Ming Cheng. They were managed by Hua-Wei Lin.
Philippines placed fifth for the third consecutive Championship.
Thailand was 6th for the third straight time.
