Off-season[edit]
In December, the Marlins traded Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to the Detroit Tigers for a package of six prospects, lead by Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller.
The 2008 Marlins were the first team in MLB history to have four infielders hit 25 or more homers with 1B Mike Jacobs, 2B Dan Uggla, SS Hanley Ramírez and 3B Jorge Cantú. The next team to do so were the 2021 Atlanta Braves.
