Alejandro Canales Munguía (El Toro)

Alejandro Canales starred for the Nicaraguan national team.

Canales was 3-1 in the 1950 Amateur World Series and also hit .353; he beat Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico and lost to the Dominican national team. He was one win behind tournament leader Nicolas Genestas. He was 0-2 in the 1951 Pan American Games, losing to Venezuela and Mexico.

Alejandro beat Guatemala and El Salvador in the 1951 Amateur World Series and lost to Panama. He was 3-1 in the 1952 Amateur World Series, beating Mexico, Cuba (the first Nicaraguan pitcher to beat Cuba in an Amateur World Series) and the Dominicans while losing to Panama. He was one win behind leader Humberto Evangelista. In Nicaragua that year, he threw a perfect game.

El Toro was 2-0 in the 1953 Amateur World Series for the Bronze Medal winners, beating Panama finally and also topping Aruba.

He set several Nicaraguan Amateur World Series records: most wins (10) and most complete games (throwing two in 1950).

In 1994, he was inducted into the Nicaraguan Sports Hall of Fame.
