Biographical Information[edit]
Growing up in Syracuse, New York, Bill Gates played baseball, hockey, and football. A pitcher, he played three years in the minors before joining the Army during World War II. After the war, he returned to baseball and played several more seasons, most notably in the Border League. With the Watertown Athletics in 1948, he was 14-17 and paced the circuit with 232 strikeouts. He went 9-4 with the Auburn Cayugas in 1951 and again led the league with 94 strikeouts. Gates also managed several seasons.
