Biographical Information[edit]
Chen-Wei Chen has played in the CPBL. His cousin Chia-Chu Chen played in the US minors. [1]
Chen-Wei Chen played short for the Taiwanese team that finished third in the 2010 Little League World Series. He had three hits in the 3rd/4th place game win over Pearland, TX. [2] After college, the Lamigo Monkeys took him in the 2nd round of the 2018 CPBL draft after going for pitcher Wei-Chun Weng in round one. [3] He was 1 for 11 in the 2018 CPBL. [4] He played in the Asia Winter League. [5]
Chen hit .300/.362/.426 with 11 triples in the 2019 CPBL, stealing 22 bases in 29 tries. He played both outfield (.971, 51 G) and SS (.931, 36 G). He hit two triples back-to-back July 24. <ref. ibid. </ref> He easily led the league in triples, five ahead of Che-Hsuan Lin, and was second in stolen bases, five behind Wei-Chen Wang. He was timed as fast on the bases as Dee Gordon. [6] He scored four runs in the finale of the 2019 Taiwan Series, won by Lamigo. He won CPBL Rookie of the Year. [7]
