Biographical Information[edit]

Dan Runzler was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 9th round of the 2007 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Ray Krawczyk and began his pro career that summer.

In 2009, Runzler pitched for all four of the Giants' full-season minor league affiliates (the Augusta GreenJackets, San Jose Giants, Connecticut Defenders, and Fresno Grizzlies) and for the Giants, which is believed to be a first for the team.

After not playing in the major leagues from 2013 to 2016, Runzler returned to that level with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2017. In eight relief appearances, he had a 4.50 ERA. He played at Triple A and in independent ball in the interim.

Runzler moved to the coaching ranks as pitching coach of the San Jose Giants in 2022.
