Biographical Information[edit]
Don Slaught, a good hitter for a catcher, played 16 years in the majors. His most notable year was probably 1992 when he hit .345 in 255 at-bats while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Slaught hit over .300 six times in the majors. Although he never appeared in a World Series, he was in post-season play four different times.
He singled in first two at-bats off of John Tudor.
Slaught was hitting coach of the Detroit Tigers for the 2006 season.
A smart guy, Slaught earned a degree in economics from UCLA and was an Academic All-American in 1979.
