Biographical Information[edit]
Ed Somerville was a good-field-no-hit workhorse second baseman who played as a regular in most of the games played by the three teams he was on.
Although the New Haven team he played on in 1875 wasn't one of the teams in the new National League in 1876, Somerville found a job anyway in the new league, indicating that he was probably respected for his fielding.
He died the following year in 1877, the first National Leaguer to die.
