Biographical Information[edit]

Eui-lee Lee made the Olympics as a teenager.

Lee was the first-round pick of the KIA Tigers in 2021. [1] He was 4-3 with a 3.89 ERA (73 K in 71 2/3 IP, 51 H, 42 BB) to begin 2021 then made South Korea's team for the Tokyo Olympics. The only younger Olympic baseball player that year was staffmate Jin-uk Kim. [2] He got the start against the Dominican national team, facing Raúl Valdés, whose playing career had begun before Lee was born. He struck out veteran big leaguers Jose Bautista and Melky Cabrera twice apiece and finished with nine whiffs in five innings, with four hits and two walks, but three runs as one of the hits was a two-run shot by Juan Francisco. Sang-woo Cho relieved with a 3-1 deficit and South Korea rallied to save Lee from a loss. [3] He then started versus eventual Silver Medal winner Team USA and allowed two runs in five, losing to Ryder Ryan; Won-joon Choi took over for him. He tied Masato Morishita for 5th in the Olympics in innings pitched that year and his 18 strikeouts tied Yoshinobu Yamamoto for the lead. [4] He finished the KBO season at 4-5, 3.61. He won KBO Rookie of the Year, the first Tiger to do so in 37 years (when Soon-chul Lee was picked). He got 417 points to 49 for runner-up Jun-yong Choi. [5]
