Biographical Information[edit]
Frank Reberger was a tall (6' 5"), slender right-handed pitcher in the National League for the Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants in the 1970s. His nickname, "Crane", referred to his physical build. He was a hard thrower who was also pretty wild, and was used both in starting and (primarily) relief roles, with mixed results. He never really established himself, and in his five parts of seasons he had some nice stretches of solid pitching, but mostly not. Pitching for the Treasure Valley Cubs in 1966, Reberger tied for the Pioneer League lead in hit batsmen, with 15. This is also an all-time season record for the league.
Reberger was pitching coach for the Nashua Angels (1983), Edmonton Trappers (1984-1987), San Jose Giants (1992), Vancouver Canadians (1996), Shreveport Captains (1997), and Duluth-Superior Dukes (2000) among others.
Reberger has been a major league coach and roving pitching instructor (Anaheim Angels, 1991; Florida Marlins, 1993-1994) and has managed in the minors, primarily in the San Francisco Giants farm system and also in the independent leagues. In 2007, he was manager of the Edmonton Cracker-Cats of the independent Northern League. He had been the team's pitching instructor, and was promoted to manager when former Edmonton Trappers and major league player Ron Kittle turned down the job.
Reberger moved to the President Lions as pitching coach in 2008.
