Biographical Information[edit]

Freddy Rodriguez was a long-time Cuban pitcher who appeared in the major leagues in 1958 and 1959, with the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies. He was also known as Trompoloco Rodriguez, or under his birth name of Fernando Rodriguez.

Trompoloco was a regular pitcher as early as 1946 with Havana. The book Cuban Baseball has a picture of him from 1947 with the Havana Cubans after the team won its second straight pennant.

When he finally came to the majors, he was 34 years old. He vanished after his major league career, and it was not known whether he had returned to Cuba or stayed in the United States. The common nature of his name did not help researchers who tried to trace him. However, a Spanish-language obituary was published upon his death in Miami, FL in 2009, that confirmed he was the former baseball player.
