Biographical Information[edit]

Fritz Ackley pitched briefly during two seasons in the majors. He had an impressive 2.08 ERA in 13 innings for the Chicago White Sox in 1963. He had one win as a big leaguer, on September 27, 1963 against the Washington Senators. He pitched 7 solid innings, giving up 2 hits, an earned run, walking 4 and striking out 7. The White Sox won, 7-1, with Hoyt Wilhelm earning a save. Ackley may be best known as the other player on Steve Carlton's Topps rookie card; he was 7 1/2 years older than Lefty. During his career, Fritz primarily wore number 18. During 13 seasons in the minors, he won 95 games. He was a member of the Lincoln Chiefs in 1959.
