Biographical Information[edit]
A graduate of Tampa Jesuit High School, pitcher Geoff Goetz was selected by the New York Mets in the first round of the 1997 amateur draft. He made his pro debut with the Capital City Bombers the following year, going 5-4 with a 3.96 ERA in 15 starts.
In the 1996 World Junior Championship, Goetz hit .412 and made the All-Star team in center field. On the hill, he was less effective, going 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA and walking 5 in 8 innings; he was part of the US implosion in the semifinals against Taiwan.
