Biographical Information[edit]

George Popplein may have played one game in the National Association. However, Peter Morris says it may have been one of his brothers.

Brian McKenna has a great site on early Baltimore baseball which includes a biography of Popplein. He was part of an amateur club in Baltimore starting in 1861, and played amateur ball all through the 1860's. He had three brothers who were also active in amateur ball. After baseball he became a paint manufacturer and a chemist. He died of kidney disease. Source: Early Baltimore Baseball, Part 10.
