Biographical Information[edit]

Grover Froese was an American League umpire in 1952 and 1953. He had begun his umpiring career in the Middle Atlantic League in 1947. He was in the Eastern League from 1948 to 1950 and in the International League in 1951 and at the start of 1952. He then worked in the American Association in 1954.

In 1946, he became a scout for the Philadelphia Phillies and kept the position until 1965. He had served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946, during World War II.

He was likely named after pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander, given that he was born when the latter was at the height of his fame.
