Biographical Information[edit]
When Harry Pearce hit .244 in 1918 at the age of 28 for the Philadelphia Phillies, it was exactly the same as the team batting average. He also had good range at second base. However, the next year he didn't hit.
He and Patsy McGaffigan competed for the second base job. 1918 was Patsy's last year, while Harry played in 1919. For many years afterward, the Phillies had a different regular second baseman each year until Bernie Friberg and then Fresco Thompson held the position.
Harry was a standout goalkeeper for Philadelphia's professional soccer team. He made several appearances both for and against the famous Bethlehem Steel Soccer Club.
