Team History[edit]

The Hillsboro Hops, of the Northwest League and briefly in High-A West, chose their nickname to salute Oregon as a leading U.S. producer of the beer ingredient with a pun on what happens when a baseball is batted sharply onto the ground. The Arizona Diamondbacks farmhands play their home games at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro, OR.

MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization raised the Hops, and most of the Northwest circuit, two levels and kept them with the D-backs. The Yakima Bears moved to Hillsboro after the 2012 season to become the Hops.

The ballpark's name is per a 2013 naming rights deal with a local automobile dealership. The Tonkins later sold that business, but Ed and Adam Tonkin have since joined the Hops' ownership. Principal owner Mike McMurray announced in April 2022 that the father-son duo now has the second-largest stake in the club.

The Hops play Copa de la Diversión Hispanic engagement campaign games as Soñadores de Hillsboro (Hillsboro Dreamers).
