Yoo was 1 for 15 with 6 walks as South Korea's right fielder in the 1999 Intercontinental Cup. Yoo batted .231/.286/.308 with 6 strikeouts in 13 AB in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, backing up Byung-kyu Lee. Yoo began his pro career in OB Bears in 2002, hitting .211/~.262/.281 in 57 AB. Yoo was injured in a car accident on August 9 and missed all of 2003.
In 2004, Yoo batted .222/~.308/.412 in 76 games for the Bears. He hit .250/.388/.400 with 9 runs in 11 games in the 2005 Baseball World Cup, while serving as Korea's main center fielder. In the Gold Medal game, he was 0 for 3 with a walk while hitting third against Dany Betancourt and Pedro Luis Lazo in a 3-0 loss.
Yoo hit .237/.293/.447 with 7 runs in 9 games in the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, playing right field. He returned to the Bears in 2007 and went 6 for 33 with a double and 4 walks. He was a DH/LF in the 2007 Baseball World Cup, hitting .258/.378/.484.
Yoo became a regular for Doosan and hit .276/.339/.360 in 104 games. Through 2008, he has batted .246/~.319/.357 in the KBO.
