Biographical Information[edit]

Jay Sullenger began his collegiate career at Division II Florida Southern College before transferring to Liberty University. He was a second-team All-Big South selection as a senior infielder at Liberty. Sullenger earned his bachelor's degree in sports management from Liberty in 2000 and his master's in sports administration in 2002 at James Madison University (JMU).

Sullenger began his coaching career while a graduate student at James Madison. He served as a volunteer assistant coach from 2001-2003 before gaining a paid assistant coach position. He stayed at JMU through the end of 2011. During that time he was promoted to associate head coach in 2008 with increased responsibilities for the program.

After a short break from coaching baseball, Sullenger joined Biola University in April 2013 as their head coach. He helped the team transition from a NAIA member institution to a NCAA division II program. Sullenger resigned his position in late 2018. In his five seasons at the helm, he led his team to a 137-137 (.500) overall record and three-consecutive 30-win seasons and postseason berths.

Sullenger joined the Texas Rangers organization in late 2019. He was scheduled to be a coach for the Hickory Crawdads in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down the minor league season. Sullenger managed the ACL Rangers in 2021, then was development coach of Hickory in 2022.
