He is part of only four three-generation MLB families, the Boones, Bells and Colemans being the others.
Hairston played for Mexico in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, going 4 for 14 with 3 walks, a double, 3 runs and a RBI. He alternated between right field and center field, with his brother Scott also playing center during the Classic. The brothers were eligible to play for Mexico as their mother is Mexican.
Jerry Hairston Jr. had his first career five-hit day with the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 27, 2012, in a 5-1 win over the Houston Astros. He was a back-up at several positions for the Dodgers in 2012 and 2013, hitting .273 the first year, but slipping to .211 the second. He announced his retirement after that season.
