Biographical information[edit]

Pitcher Jesús Sánchez played in the minor leagues beginning in 2005, moving to the mound in 2008.

Sánchez began his professional career as a catcher in 2005, in the New York Yankees farm system. He hit .165/.267/.217 for the DSL Yankees. In 2006, he played in 24 games with the GCL Yankees (.269/.346/.323) before being traded from the Yankees with C.J. Henry, Carlos Monasterios and Matt Smith for Cory Lidle and Bobby Abreu on July 30. He played in eight games with the GCL Phillies that year, going 5 for 26. Overall, he batted .252 in 32 games.

He split the 2007 season between the GCL Phillies (34 games) and Clearwater Threshers (one game), hitting .216/.321/.258. In 2008, he spent most of his season with the Lakewood BlueClaws, hitting .186/.231/.345 in 35 games. He also spent one game with the GCL Phillies in 2008 - though he was used as a pitcher. He pitched one inning in relief, allowing no runs.

Sánchez converted to pitching full-time in 2009, and he went 10-6 with a 3.44 ERA in 26 games for the BlueClaws. In 136 innings, he gave up 137 hits and 42 walks, while striking out 120 batters. In 2010, he pitched for the Clearwater Threshers and went 9-7 with a 2.99 ERA in 23 games (22 starts).

He signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers for 2011. With the Huntsville Stars that year, he went 4-7 with a 4.91 ERA in 30 games (14 starts). He was 7-3 with 11 saves and a 1.63 ERA in 52 games between the Stars and Triple-A Nashville Sounds in 2012 (earning a spot on the Southern League Mid-Season All-Star team) and in 2013, he was 4-3 with 7 saves and a 2.83 ERA in 48 appearances for the Sound.

He signed with the Miami Marlins for 2014 and began the season with the Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs and went 0-5 with a 7.47 ERA in 23 relief appearances before being released partway through the season.

Though his affiliated career was over, he continued his winter league career, playing for the Navegantes del Magallanes of the Venezuelan Winter League in 2014 and 2015. He played briefly for the Rieleros de Aguascalientes in the Mexican League in 2016, posting a 0.00 ERA in 2 games. He returned to the VWL in 2016-17 and 2017-18. He joined the independent ranks in 2018, going 3-3 with a 3.67 ERA in 36 games between the Cleburne Railroaders and Lancaster Barnstormers. He pitched in the 2018-19 VWL, then joined Cleburne for 2019, going 10-4, 3.31 in 21 games (20 starts). It was his first extended use as a starter since 2011. He played in the VWL in 2019-20, posting a 2.74 ERA in 21 relief appearances, then returned to Cleburne for 2021, going 3-0 with a 4.40 ERA in 5 starts. He again played in the VWL in 2021-22.

His time in the VWL has also included many Caribbean Series appearances.
