Biographical Information[edit]
Junior Ortiz often wore fur coats, even in the middle of summer. During the latter part of his career, he took to wearing uniform #0.
Rickey Henderson broke the career stolen base record when Ortiz was catching. Asked about whether it bothered him, Ortiz said "No, he's stolen lots of bases on good catchers, too"
Ortiz's brother, Alexander Ortiz, was a minor league outfielder in 1978-1979.
Junior played for the Caguas Creoles, Ponce Lions, Mayagüez Indians, Santurce Crabbers and Arecibo Wolves during his long-lasting and prolific career in the Puerto Rican Winter Baseball League.
