Biographical Information[edit]
Luis Garcia made the majors in his 8th season as a pro.
Garcia debuted with the 2006 DSL Dodgers, going 1-1 with a 4.32 ERA and 20 walks in 33 1/3 IP. He had a 3-0, 3.55 record for the '07 GCL Dodgers. The next year, he was again 3-0, but this time with 9 saves and a 2.40 ERA for the Ogden Raptors; he fanned 37 in 30 innings. He was second in the Pioneer League in saves, two behind Kurt Yacko. He began 2009 with the Great Lakes Loons (5-3, 5 Sv, 2.92) before being dealt with a player to be named later to the Washington Nationals for Ronnie Belliard. He was 1-0 with no runs in four innings for the Potomac Nationals following the deal. He was less effective in 2010 with Potomac (17 R, 21 H in 8 2/3 IP) and the Hagerstown Suns (4-4, 3.86).
Garcia was out of baseball in 2011. In 2012, he returned but did very poorly with the Newark Bears (0-1, 26 G, 12 BB< 25 R in 16 1/3 innings). Despite that, the Philadelphia Phillies signed him for 2013. He quickly climbed through the system, going from A (0-1, 7 Sv, 1.37 for the Clearwater Threshers) to AA (2-1, Sv, 2.45 for the Reading Phillies) to AAA (1 R in 7 IP, 3 Sv for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs) to the majors (when Philippe Aumont was demoted). In his MLB debut, he relieved in the top of the 8th with a 4-1 deficit against Washington. He retired Bryce Harper, fanned Ryan Zimmerman (who reached on a wild pitch on strike three), walked Jayson Werth and got Adam LaRoche to ground into a 4-6-3 double play. Justin De Fratus replaced him in the 9th.
Garcia played for the Phillies from 2013 to 2018, for a total of 251 games, all in relief. On December 6,2018, he was traded to the Los Angeles Angels in return for fellow reliever Jose Alvarez.
