Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Martin was a minor league infielder in 1991-1994 and a minor league manager for three years.

From 1997 to 2003, he served in various capacities in the Detroit Tigers organization, including as a minor league hitting coach for the Jacksonville Suns (1998-2000) and Erie SeaWolves (2001-2003) and as a roving instructor. He was minor league infield instructor for the Baltimore Orioles in 2004, then worked two years with the GCL Yankees, first as hitting coach, then as manager. From 2007-2011, Martin was the minor league infield coordinator for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 2012, he was named manager of the AZL Dodgers and coordinator of Arizona instruction for the Dodgers, then in 2013 was the minor league infield instructor for the Baltimore Orioles. In 2014, he re-joined the Detroit Tigers as the major league team's defensive coordinator, a non-uniformed coaching position. In 2016, he was officially listed as the team's defensive coach and a full-time member of the coaching staff, lasting until the end of the 2017 season. Martin is Coaching Assistant/Instant Replay Coordinator for the Los Angeles Angels in 2019.
