The Mercuries Tigers were a founding member of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. The team won the league's first half by going 29-13-3 (0.690). The team lost the inagural Taiwan Series 4-2 to the Wei Chuan Dragons. The never reached the playoffs again and withdrew from the league following the 1999 season due to an operating deficit.
