Pennant race
The pennant race refers to the period of time during August and September when teams are racing to secure a spot in the postseason. Before 1969, teams raced for the pennant, a synonym for the league title and the right to play in the World Series. With division play, the term pennant race refers to any teams fighing to make the playoffs.
