Rasty Wright hit quite well for most of 1890 with the Syracuse Stars, where he had an on-base percentage of .428, which was good for sixth in the league. Finishing the season with 13 games for the Cleveland Spiders, he hit only .111 but had an on-base percentage of .298 due to getting 12 walks.
Oddly for a fellow who drew many walks, he was tall for his time at 6' 1".
He was with the Toledo Mud Hens in 1885 and played a number of years in the International League for various teams, including Syracuse. During the 1890's he was a player-manager with several teams, beginning in 1891.
Wright led at least three different minor leagues in runs, two in doubles, one in hits and one in average. He is considered to be the most likely candidate to have reached 2,000 minor league hits, accumulating 2,111 in 6,022 AB for a .351 average in the minors.
Wright was said to be a huge eater, to the extent that his eating even attracted enough attention to merit mention in Sporting Life.
He is not to be confused with another Rasty Wright, a pitcher.
