Biographical Information[edit]

Roberto Gutiérrez has played in the minors and for the Panamanian national team. In 1998, he played for the DSL Blue Jays. He hit .150/~.227/.250 in 7 games for the 1999 Medicine Hat Blue Jays. He led the 2001 Bolivarian Games with three homers and a 1.308 slugging percentage as Panama won the Gold. He hit .216/.237/.351 as Panama's starting second baseman in the 2001 Baseball World Cup. He won a Silver with Panama in the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games. In the 2002 Intercontinental Cup, he batted .267/.281/.467 - the team claimed Bronze but was later stripped of its Medal when Roberto and three teammates (Earl Agnoly, Jorge Cortez and Roberto Kelly) tested positive for banned substances and were barred from IBAF events for two years. In 2003, Roberto hit .225/?/.538 with 6 homers in 20 games for the Kelowna Heat of the Canadian Baseball League. He was 1 for 9 as Panama's second sacker in the 2007 Pan American Games. In the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup, he had 2 hits (both doubles) in 14 at-bats and walked four times.
