Biographical Information[edit]
Sam Shaw, a 5' 5" pitcher, broke in with the Baltimore Orioles of the American Association in 1888 then came back with the Chicago Colts in 1893, where he was one of the oldest pitchers on a staff that averaged 25 years of age.
After baseball, he worked as a grocer in Baltimore, MD, then moved successively to Philadelphia, PA and Atlantic City, NJ. Through his daughter, Irene Brown, he was then traced to Upper Darby, PA, where he died in 1947.
