Sporting Life
Sporting Life was a national sports newspaper and magazine in the 19th century, but was superseded by The Sporting News. Sporting Life is a good source of early baseball history. It was used by baseball as its quasi-official publication and is extensively mined by current baseball researchers and historians. The primary sportswriter and researcher behind the paper was Francis Richter.
The paper was published from 1883-1917. It might have survived longer but for World War I, which caused many of its readers to spend time in Europe.
It has been digitized by the LA84 Foundation and can be searched here.
