Takeo Akuta is a member of the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame.
Akuta won a batting title for Waseda University as an outfielder in 1925. He later was a sportswriter for Asahi Shimbun.
He managed six seasons in Nippon Pro Baseball. He took over the Kintetsu Pearls on September 24, 1952, replacing Shozo Fujita and going 1-1 over the remainder of the season. His teams were 48-69-3 in 1953, 74-63-3 in 1954 (his lone season over .500), 60-80-2 in 1955 and 68-82-4 in 1956. After a 14-36-2 start in 1957, he was let go. He was later president of the Pearls.
Akuta was voted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1988, the year after he died.
