Biographical Information[edit]
After hitting .258/~.313/.363, catcher Tim Cossins was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 45th round of the 1992 amateur draft but did not sign. Returning to the University of Oklahoma, he batted .274/~.330/.504 and was chosen by the Texas Rangers in the 16th round of the 1993 amateur draft.
Tim went 4 for 10 for the Erie Sailors with two walks in '93 but only hit .146/~.208/.169 in 27 games for the Charleston Rainbows. In 1994, he batted just .107/.219/.107 in 10 outings with the Charlotte Rangers and .118/.353/.118 in 6 games for the Hudson Valley Renegades. In '95, Cossins hit .203/~.309/.339 for Charleston, was 1 for 17 for Charlotte and 0 for 4 for the GCL Rangers. Overall, his line was .163/~.280/.263.
In 1996, Cossins hit .244/~.283/.350 for Charlotte in his only season as his club's primary catcher. He also went 2 for 4 for the Tulsa Drillers. Staying with Tulsa in 1997, the 27-year-old backstop batted .296/~.345/.472 in his finest offensive year. He signed with the New York Yankees for '98 and hit .223/~.247/.319 for the Tampa Yankees. In 1999, Cossins hit .172/~.206/.323 as Brian Schneider's backup on the Harrisburg Senators after signing with the Montreal Expos system. He finished his playing career with the 2000 Sonoma County Crushers, going 2 for 14.
Since his playing career ended, he managed the GCL Marlins in 2003 (26-32) and 2004 (31-29) and was skipper of the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Florida State League in 2005 and 2006.
In 2020, he was a member of the coaching staff of the Baltimore Orioles with the title of Field Coordinator.
