The Trenton Thunder were a member of the AA Eastern League affiliated with the New York Yankees, from 2003 to 2019. They were formerly an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers between 1994 and 2002. They were Eastern League champions in 2007 and 2008. Before moving to Trenton they were the London Tigers, based in London, ON.
The Thunder lost their MLB affiliation in the minor league reorganization of 2021 and subsequently joined the MLB Draft League, a summer collegiate league. However, local fans found a measure of reprieve when the Buffalo Bisons moved into Arm & Hammer Park and made it their temporary home at the start of the 2021 season. This was prompted by the continued closure of the Canada-U.S. border to non-essential trafic, forcing the Toronto Blue Jays to find a temporary home. As they had done in 2020, they used the home park of their AAA affiliate the Bisons, starting on June 1st, after starting the year based out of the spring training complex in Dunedin, FL. When the minor league season began in early May, Sahlen Field in Buffalo, NY was undergoing renovations to accommodate the Jays, and the Bisons decided to move into the unoccupied former AA facility in Trenton. They played their home games as the Thunder, but road games as the Bisons, while their players' statistics were listed under the Buffalo name. They were part of the newly-formed Triple-A East, the first time that level of baseball had been played in Trenton.
