Werner Park

From BR Bullpen

Werner Park in the Omaha suburb of Papillion, NE, is the home of the Omaha Storm Chasers, the Kansas City Royals' International League farm team. Ironically, given the nickname the club had just taken, its 2011 debut was postponed by a winter storm.

From 1969 through 2010, the farm club shared Rosenblatt Stadium with the NCAA College World Series. Pacific Coast League schedulers complained about having to keep the then-Omaha Royals on the road for two straight weeks every season - which would no longer be a problem under the scheduling system implemented in MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization. Whether that would ever have led to a second stadium or not, that solution emerged when the O-Royals and the city of Omaha couldn't come to terms on sharing the new home of the CWS. Originally TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, its name was changed after Charles Schwab Corporation acquired TD Ameritrade and renamed it Charles Schwab Field Omaha. The O-Royals were looking elsewhere when Sarpy County kept them in the market by building a separate playpen in Papillion. Both stadiums opened in the same season, 2011.

Omaha-based trucking company Werner Enterprises quickly bought naming rights. Sarpy County Tourism's office is located inside the park, and a statue of Omaha native Bob Gibson greets fans outside it.

Regular-season sellouts are reported as 9,023. A higher figure was reported once, possibly revealing the actual capacity: 9,351 on March 25, 2019, when the Storm Chasers hosted their parent Royals in a pre-season exhibition game.

Werner measures 315 feet to right field, 310 to left and 402 to center.
