Biographical Information[edit]
Xavier Mateu was an umpire and official in Spain. As an umpire, he worked the 1992 Olympics. He was on the technical commission for numerous international events, including the 2007 European Championship, 2010 European Championship and 2012 European Championship. He was technical director of the Spanish baseball federation and secretary-general of the Confederation of European Baseball. He died of a heart attack at age 50. Two years later, he was inducted into the Spanish Baseball Hall of Fame.
