Lightweight outfielder Yoshinobu Kotegawa was not listed on Japan's initial roster for the 2009 Asian Championship but joined the team at some point. He had one of their biggest hits on route to a gold medal, doubling in the winner off Ching-Ming Wang in a 6-5 victory over Taiwan in the final round. The Honda industrial league outfield teammate of Hisayoshi Chono, he joined Chono for the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
